Protesters descend upon Trump Tower, Supreme Court in wake of Kavanaugh nomination

"I support President Trump's nominee, and I hope the Senate will move expeditiously to confirm Judge Kavanaugh, a high quality and uniquely qualified nominee".

Trump announced his choice with a prime-time address from the White House East Room. He also comes from the D.C. Circuit, which has produced current Justices Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as well as the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Top contenders had included federal appeals judges Raymond Kethledge, Amy Coney Barrett and Thomas Hardiman, as well as Kavanaugh, who is now a federal appellate judge in the District of Columbia. He served on the team of independent counsel Ken Starr during Starr's investigation of the Clinton White House. After graduating cum laude from Washington School of Law at American University in 1978, Martha Kavanaugh became prosecutor in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Kavanaugh, 53, grew up in Maryland.

McConnell reportedly spoke often to Trump and White House general counsel Don McGahn throughout the selection process and was anxious about the vast number of documents Kavanaugh had amassed during his 12 years on the D.C. appeals court could prove problematic.

Trump teases pick for Supreme Court
President Obama introduces federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland as his nominee for the Supreme Court on March 16, 2016. Susan Collins of ME affirmed to reporters Wednesday she will not affirm a nominee with "demonstrated hostility" to Roe v.

Still other Democratic senators issued strong statements against Kavanaugh-as well as the Senate moving on the matter-on Twitter.

Some conservatives lobbied against him, worrying that his upbringing in the suburbs of D.C. could mean he'll be the kind of justice who has disappointed conservatives before.

On abortion, Kavanaugh voted in October to delay an abortion for a teenage immigrant who was in government custody.

Reporters and camera crews are staking out the homes of the four finalists, looking for any sign of movement toward an airport, or, in Kavanaugh's case, toward the White House.

"A judge must interpret statutes as written".

That sustained pressure eventually led to Brazil's goal and they raised their game, winning the balls and passing more accurately. The keeper will have some advice to give to Courtois on the positioning and movements of Liverpool colleague Roberto Firmino .

Trump published a similar list during the 2016 campaign, and it was widely credited with helping him win the votes of social conservatives who otherwise might have been skeptical of a thrice-married billionaire from NY. But, the officials said, McConnell did note that Hardiman and Kethledge could fare well in the Senate because their reputations and records were not as politically charged as others on the president's shortlist of nominees. But he says with his final four options "you can't go wrong".

Kavanaugh will begin making the rounds on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, accompanied by former Sen. Kavanaugh's vetting process will probably take even longer due to the extensive paper trail that he generated during his long legal career thus far, creating a golden opportunity for Senate Democrats to seize upon. If Kavanaugh proves to be strongly anti-Roe, it's possible the Supreme Court could overturn the decision, allowing states to outlaw abortion once again.

As soon as Kennedy announced his retirement plans on June 27, Democrats mobilized, arguing that anyone Trump selects would be hand-picked to help roll back abortion rights, Affordable Care Act protections, same-sex marriage, and scores of other decisions that have shaped modern America - while ruling in favor of corporations and against under-represented minorities. This nomination is one of the most important items that we will consider this year.

All of the candidates are relatively young and could help shape legal doctrine on the high court for decades to come. "If confirmed, the conservative wing of the court - composed of five men - will be poised to strip women of the freedom to make their own health choices and control their own futures". "The members of that community disagree about many things but we are united by a commitment to serve".

Monday marked the second time Trump has nominated a Supreme Court justice in less than two years in office.

Gareth Southgate - who has become a surprise fashion icon over his waistcoat - has allegedly been advised to prevent his team shaking hands for medical reasons.
