President Trump picks Judge Brett Kavanaugh

Conservatives are rightly jubilant with Trump's choice of Brett Kavanaugh - Kenneth Starr protégé, conservative operative and federal appellate judge - to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy in the U.S. supreme court.

Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling affirming the legality of a woman's right to have an abortion under the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.

Durbin said Todd had a point but that his colleagues understood the significance of the decision that's before them.

The president said: "Judge Kavanaugh has impeccable credentials, unsurpassed qualifications and a proven commitment to equal justice under the law".

Such comments are likely to raise a red flag to moderate Republican senators like Susan Collins, R-Maine, who have said they would not vote for a nominee who has expressed doubts about overturning precedents when it comes to abortion and other long-standing Supreme Court decisions.

"The part that bothers me is what I think is irresponsible rhetoric, for somebody who's a prominent Democrat to say there are millions of lives at stake because of this Supreme Court justice", Sexton told co-host Krystal Ball on "Rising".
