The facility will also double Samsung's capacity in India from 68 million units per year to 120 million units annually.

Samsung India also announced its new "Make for the World" initiative, with an aim to export smartphones produced in India. "We are aligned with government policies and will continue to seek their support to achieve our dream of making India a global export hub for mobile phones", H C Hong, Chief Executive Officer, Samsung India, said. "Altogether, over 400,000 people are working in those units and Samsung is spearheading this with a workforce of 70,000 people", Modi said.

Announcing the investment a year ago, the South Korean giant said that it would position the Noida plant as a major production hub and create about 5,000 new jobs.
