Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort files request to hire 61 foreign workers

Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort files request to hire 61 foreign workers

Just over a year after Donald Trump signed his "Buy American and Hire American" executive order, his Mar-a-Lago golf resort has filed for permission to hire 61 foreign workers.

The president is known to speak about the "Buy American, Hire American" policy on several occasions and has often asked businesses to opt for U.S. workers.

The president's opulent Florida beach club wants to hire 21 immigrant cooks from October to May, and another 40 temporary foreign wait staff.

The Palm Beach resort reportedly wanted to hire workers who would be employed using H-2B visas-which businesses usually obtain only if they are able to prove they can not find enough American workers to fill the vacancies.

The canadian province of Quebec has covered a heat wave. "What we know is, first they have heat stroke". Environment Canada lifted heat warnings for the regions, including Quebec, for the next several days.

It appears President Donald Trump can not find any Americans willing and able to hold jobs at his favorite weekend getaway: Mar-a-Lago Club.

The club seeks to hire the non-American employees as the Trump administration cracks down on illegal entry into the United States with a so-called "zero-tolerance" immigration policy.

The seasonal workers would be required to return to their home country once their H-2B visas expire. That same week, however, "Mar-a-Lago was applying for foreign worker visas".

In April 2017, Trump signed the "Buy American and Hire American Executive Order", which sought to boost job opportunities for US workers by "rigorously enforcing and administering our immigration laws". But it is seeking to pay those cooks slightly less than in 2017: the posting says Mar-a-Lago's pay for cooks starts at $13.31 per hour, down 3 cents from the year before.

Last year, after Trump said there were "very fine people" among violent crowds of protesters in Charlottesville, many of Trump's longtime charity clients quit.

Mar-a-Lago's competitors in Palm Beach, including other social clubs and hotels, have also used foreign labor.

Other Trump-related businesses have also gone outside the pad its seasonal work force.

According to the Palm Beach Post, its review of the Trump Foundation's tax records found a frequent pattern of charities receiving donations after they moved their events to Mar-a-Lago.
