United Kingdom business group warns patience running out on Brexit

A spokesman for British Prime Minister Theresa May said he would not speculate about Brexit policy options ahead of a meeting of ministers later this week, after a report said officials have drafted a new way of handling customs with the European Union.

Business confidence and investment intentions will continue to deteriorate until Prime Minister Theresa May ends the bickering in her cabinet and delivers "urgent clarity on the practical, detailed issues that underpin trade", the British chambers of commerce (BCC) said.

"But as the prime minister has said, we can't give a running commentary in public on a matter where we are in intensive discussions with our European interlocutors". She was dogged, however, by questions about her plans and how she would unite the cabinet behind a strategy that could be the basis of negotiation with the EU.Jeremy Corbyn, the Labour leader, attacked Mrs May saying that her statement was almost 2,000 words but barely mentioned plans for Brexit.

He insisted he was not "personally ambitious" and was not aware of a £750,000 war chest reportedly raised by supporters for an eventual leadership bid. "I am sure that she will deliver a Brexit that is entirely consistent with the promises she has made".

According to the BBC, a United Kingdom government spokesperson said: "We are confident of getting a good deal with the European Union to ensure trade remains as free and frictionless as possible".

Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, a key Cabinet Brexiteer, had recently used a four-letter word to dismiss those same business fears.

Mr Hammond said ministers at Friday's meeting will also be given Whitehall's assessment of the economic implications of different Brexit options.

Business minister Richard Harrington said: "I do wish people would stop putting their own dogma above the good of the country and the Party".

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) has published the two-dozen top real-world questions being asked on Brexit by businesses across the United Kingdom - and says the government has managed to make limited progress on just 2 of the 23 issues where clarity is urgently needed so that firms can plan their trade following the UK's departure from the EU.

"We are now looking forward to the White Paper from the United Kingdom, and we very much hope that it will bring the necessary clarity, realism, and impetus to these negotiations", Tusk told MEPs.
