Texas DPS charge woman for sale or purchase of a child

Authorities say a Texas mother with a drug debt to settle is accused of selling her seven-year-old son for $US2,500 ($3,387).

At approximately 6 a.m., DPS Special Agents executed a drug search warrant inside the city limits of Corpus Christi. Jail records did not list an attorney for her.

Further investigation revealed the woman was in the process of selling two other children - a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old girl.

Texas Department of Public Safety said Tuesday that 29-year-old Esmeralda Garza, of Corpus Christi, was arrested Friday.

It was unclear from initial reports whether the man and woman arrested along with Garza were suspected of involvement in the alleged sale of her children or alleged drug activity inside the home. Additional charges are expected to be filed, officials said.

Garza is charged with sale or purchase of a child that's a third-degree felony.
