Ed Schultz, former MSNBC host, dead at 64

In the 1990s, Schultz transitioned to radio and served as host of a conservative talk show.

Former MSNBC host Ed Schultz passed away on Thursday at the age of 64.

"We are devastated by the news of the sudden death of our brilliant anchor, one of the best TV-Journalists in America, Ed Schultz", RT America editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan said.

His son, David Schultz, tells The Associated Press that his father died of natural causes Thursday morning in Washington, D.C., where he anchored "News with Ed Schultz" on RT America, formerly Russia Today. He later changed his political views and became a Democrat.

The show was cancelled in 2015 and he most recently worked for RT America. He went on to host radio's nationally syndicated The Ed Schultz Show from 2004-2014, which for a period of time coincided with his stint at MSNBC.

After leaving MSNBC, Schultz signed with RT America to produce "The News with Ed Schultz". "Between us I always called him a 'gladiator.' He would never give up; he was always a victor".
