Brilliant Edinson Cavani brace fires Uruguay into last eight

Edinson Cavani produced the most impressive worldwide performance of his career with two stunning goals to send Uruguay into the World Cup quarterfinals -but a second-half hamstring injury against Portugal has now left the Paris Saint-Germain striker facing a battle to be fit for Friday's last-eight matchup against France.

Defender Pepe had equalised for Portugal with a header seven minutes earlier, the first goal Uruguay has conceded at the tournament.

Edison Cavani scored in both half of the match to send Oscar Tabarez' side through to the last eight of the tournament.

It was the same after the exit to Uruguay as he insisted people should be "proud" of Portugal's efforts.

N. Korea aiming to hide ongoing nuclear production
He also urged North Korea to "continue (its) consultations with China" as it negotiates with the United States, the report said. Some North Korea experts, however, have questioned Pyongyang's willingness to make good on Trump's nuclear goals.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the second big name player to crash out of the World Cup today after Portugal were beaten 2-1 by Uruguay.

"In football, there are no moral victories and I would have preferred to play worse and win the match", Portugal coach Fernando Santos said.

"I am convinced that he has a lot to give in football", said Santos, whose own future is in doubt after elimination here.

When Portugal were dispossessed, and the ball passed to Cavani, he banged a 50-yard diagonal cross that met Luis Suarez near the right-corner of Portugal's penalty-box. The Barcelona striker burst down the flank and cut around his marker to find space at the edge of the box before crossing the ball back across goal for Cavani to head in at the far post.

President Donald Trump said he " probably won't" ask potential Supreme Court nominees about whether they would overturn Roe v. Collins said Trump assured her that he would not ask nominees whether they would vote to overturn Roe v.

Uruguay beat Portugal 2-1 in the last-16 to send Ronaldo and his team-mates packing, and the exit could signal the end of the superstar's worldwide career.

At the other end of the field, is a rock-solid defense anchored by Atletico Madrid center back pairing, Diego Godin and Jose' Gimenez that's given up just one goal in four matches at the 2018 World Cup.

Rodrigo Bentancur collected the ball around 30 yards out and slipped the ideal pass out to Cavani on the left side of the penalty area, allowing Paris Saint-Germain's record scorer to curl a gorgeous first-time strike across Wolves' new signing Patricio.

In contrast, Uruguay march on with arguably the best defence in worldwide football and one of the best strike pairings anywhere.

England would find Sweden tough at World Cup -Eriksson
I was over the moon when selected and I've been working as hard as I can to help the team. "And that's all I can do". However, for the Tottenham star lifting the World Cup is more important than individual honours.

Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera did nearly gift them another equaliser, dropping a high ball at the feet of Bernardo Silva, but the Manchester City man could only volley over.
