Police in New York City have made an eighth arrest in the fatal stabbing of a Bronx teenager, who was brutally attacked in what may have been a case of mistaken identity. The teen, known as "Junior", died after getting slashed with knives and a machete.

A seventh suspect, 19-year-old Kevin Alvarez of the Bronx, was arrested in NY and charged with murder, manslaughter, gang assault and assault.

New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia also expressed his grief over Guzman-Feliz's death and shared a photo of the teen wearing a Yankees jersey on Twitter.

He entered a plea of not guilty.

In a statement the New York Police Department said: "The Department has identified multiple suspects and is in the process of interviewing some of them at this time".

The leader of the Trinitarios gang apologized on Facebook, saying the vicious killing resulted from a case of mistaken identity, WPIX reported.

The teen's grieving mom, Leandra Feliz, 48, told the news outlet her son was her "angel".

National Basketball Association star Carmelo Anthony and wife La La were just two of the thousands of mourners who paid tribute to the slain Bronx teen who was killed after gang members mistakenly took revenge out on the wrong person.

"They said, 'We had the wrong person, '" Derek Grullon, 19, the teen's brother-in-law, told the New York Daily News.

At the funeral home, Lesandro's father, showed a fresh tattoo of his son on the back of his hand.

Hundreds of mourners turned out for a wake on Monday. Maybe people in attendance said they never actually knew Junior, but they wanted to show their support after hearing about the crime.

But when McEnroe was asked about the downsides of "de-seeding" the player in 32nd place on the pecking order, he shook his head. Williams has fallen down the standings after missing a year of action while giving birth to her first child.
