Gregg Popovich meets with Kawhi Leonard in California

If you've read this site before, you know about the drama that unfolded in Cleveland known as Keeping Up With The Kavs.

San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich traveled Tuesday to Southern California and met with Kawhi Leonard prior to Thursday's National Basketball Association draft, league sources told ESPN.

Early indications say the meeting was good conversation and that more dialogue is expected in the future. Last week, Leonard's camp told reporters that Leonard wants to be traded from the Spurs. ESPN reports Popovich has tried to set up a meeting for weeks. Just days after it looked like the Spurs mystique was dead, Popovich has apparently made progress on mending the relationship between he and his star player. While Leonard's preferred destination remains Los Angeles, it doesn't look like it's a done deal that he will leave.

If Leonard found his way to Laker Land, where he would likely make it clear that he'd re-sign as a free agent in the summer of 2019, it is widely believed that it would significantly increase the Lakers' chances of landing LeBron James in free agency this summer.

Both teams struggled to create chances in the second half, with half-chances the best either could produce. Suarez's goal was by no means pretty, but it did the trick.

Ever since Leonard's demand, and perhaps before, it looked like the only two options remaining for James were the Lakers or the Cavs.

San Antonio has been prioritizing working through the issues with Leonard, but they have encouraged rival teams to present an offer if they so choose. Leonard definitely seems frustrated, but Popovich must have at least some hope he can still fix things. Although the ESPN report noted San Antonio's lack of interest in engaging the Magic Johnson-led front office in negotiations, it's hard to believe there would not be at least one phone call made.
