You can’t hail an Uber via Google Maps anymore

Last year Google announced that Uber would be integrated within Google Maps. That's in contrast to Lyft, which still shows estimates for different vehicle types, though you have to tap thew "Open App" button to actually order the ride in the Lyft app.

However as spotted by Android Police, it appears that users will no longer be able to hail an Uber from Google Maps. Another possible reason for the separation could be due to Google's recent $1 billion investment in Lyft; Uber's main competitor in the United States market. The integration allowed you to book a ride, track your driver, complete, and pay for the ride without ever leaving the Google Maps application. This meant less steps for users which could also help drive the number Uber rides. With the service, you have an estimate in advance showing approximately how much your ride will cost, and you get to sit in a clean late model vehicle instead of a dirty cab with a driver running up the fare. This cool integration is now gone! If you don't have that app installed on your phone, you're directed to the Play Store or App Store - OS depending - to download it first.

Phil Mickelson sparks controversy as four players tie for US Open lead
Mickelson shot even par on the first three holes and birdied the par-4 fourth hole, putting him at 5-over for the championship. If Mickelson had a bad moment on the 13th green during his third round, his final round brought a much happier occasion.

A person looking for directions in a new city will very often require a cab to get to his destination.

It's possible that Google or Uber could make an official announcement explaining the feature removal, but for now, you'll have to use the Uber app directly if you want to book a ride through that service. This particular feature will no longer work as of the latest app updates.

Since Lyft's integration still works inside Google Maps, I guess it was Uber that chose to remove this cool integration.
