$180M opening puts animated ‘Incredibles 2’ in record books

Disney has asked all movie theaters showing the long-awaited "Incredibles 2" to include a strobe light warning for people with epilepsy after viewers voiced their concern on social media about certain scenes, Variety reports.

The Disney and Pixar film premiered to an estimated $180 million at the domestic box office this weekend. As if that wasn't impressive enough, however, that now gives the film the biggest domestic debut ever for an animated movie - not adjusted for inflation - overtaking previous record holder, Finding Dory, a fellow Pixar film, which opened to $135.1 million two years ago.

Now surprise releases have become something of a Carter family tradition, and Everything Is Love seemed to be no exception. The rapper has shown his support for Colin Kaepernick, the now-unemployed National Football League quarterback.


The movie is based on the life of Parrs, a family blessed with superpowers. The film went on to gross $633 million and win an Oscar for best animated film.

So far the film brought in $231.5 million around the world.

Jeff Tomsic directed from a script by Rob McKittrick and Mark Steilen. "Solo" has earned only $183 million domestically, while "Deadpool 2" has knocked it out of the park with $285 million and a global $665 million. Playing in 503 locations, the long-delayed film which boasts a 0 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, took in $1.7 million.
