WORLD CUP- Mohamed Salah is expected to return from his shoulder injury for Egypt's World Cup clash against hosts Russian Federation on Tuesday after he sat out the 1-0 opening defeat to Uruguay.

Salah, who injured his left shoulder playing for Liverpool in the Champions League final last month, was an unused substitute in Friday's match, which marked Egypt's return to the World Cup after 28 years.

After a brilliant opening game by the hosts Russian Federation who thrashed Saudi Arabia by 5 goals to nil, expectations for day 2 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup had been high, especially given the line up of games at hand.

Suarez, immobile for large parts of the game, had three glorious opportunities, hitting the side netting in the first half and failing to beat Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy twice in the second from close range.

What to watch out for on day three of the World Cup
Officials have already talked of staging three games, one in each of the three countries, to kick off the tournament. As The Guardian reports , the joint application of the North American countries received 134 votes.

Salah won the English Premier League Golden Boot Award after scoring 34 goals last season and capped a glorious season at Liverpool with Player of the Season award. However, he was missing from the starting 11 named on the team's official Twitter account, which showed Marwan Mohsen leading the attack.

Granted, the match itself is highly unlikely to go down as a World Cup classic, but Uruguay's narrow 1-0 win over Egypt did produce one of the moments of the 2018 tournament so far.

"He did not play today because we wanted to avoid risk or danger but I think that he will be fine for the next match", said the coach.

"I can nearly assure you 100 percent that he will play, save unforeseen circumstances at the very last minute". "I think at least four or five plays ended right there, we just lack the final touch to be able to score the goal", Cuper noted.

Six time African champions Egypt would be taking on Group A favorites Uruguay and the big question was whether the "Egyptian Pharaoh" Mohamed Salah would play a role in the game. Suarez, who has a record 51 global goals for Uruguay, repeatedly showed his frustration in the first half.

Salah injured shoulder ligaments in the collision with Ramos in Kiev, which led to the Egypt global leaving the pitch in tears in the first half.

More than 5,000 people with tickets skipped Uruguay's 1-0 win over Egypt in the opening game at Yekaterinburg.

Egypt now have a mountain to climb and must avoid defeat in their next clash against hosts Russian Federation to avoid an early exit from the tournament.
