Roller coaster derails, drops 2 riders 30 feet; 6 injured

The Daytona Beach Fire Department released video of the scene on Twitter, showing the roller coaster vehicle dangling from its tracks.

A roller coaster vehicle derailed from its tracks in Daytona Beach, Florida Thursday evening leaving people hanging on for their lives.

Two of the riders in the first vehicle are the ones who fell to the ground. The agency's Twitter page also posted images of firefighters trying to remove riders from a dangling vehicle. The extent of their injuries is also not yet known.

Firefighters used ladder trucks and special equipment to rescue those who were stuck on the amusement ride.

'They were faced with unsafe conditions as they worked as fast as possible to successfully extricate everyone safely'.

One of the roller coaster cars completely derailed and was left dangling from the track, she told USA TODAY. A hospital spokeswoman would not comment on their conditions to a News-Journal reporter.

The popular Sand Blaster ride is a three-car, sit-down rollercoaster, which opened in August 2013.
