Thomas Lemar: Atletico Madrid reach agreement to sign Monaco and France winger

Arsenal failed to sign Lemar, 22, in last summer's transfer window, while he was also a £60m target for Liverpool.

Lemar is now on global duty with France at the World Cup, and will link up with his new team-mates after the tournament once the deal is officially confirmed.

But instead Griezmann wanted only to talk about his and France's preparations for their opening game of the World Cup against Australia on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Atletico are reportedly close to concluding a deal for Griezmann's France teammate Thomas Lemar, who could move from Monaco for around €60m.

An enterprising Spanish journalist found a way to flout a French-only language edict at star France forward Antoine Griezmann's pre-World Cup press conference.

Griezmann, 27, had been whispered as a transfer target of almost every big club on Earth for several seasons, with Barcelona the latest and most often linked to the Frenchman.

Griezmann insists he is made a decision on his club future but has refused to reveal if he will remain with Atletico next season.

Lionel Messi believes his signing would go a long way in helping Barcelona become European champions for the first time since 2015.
