Daniel Ricciardo hopes to avoid Canadian GP penalty

Daniel Ricciardo hopes to avoid Canadian GP penalty

Hamilton is concerned that doing this race with an old engine that will have lost a small amount of power over its life could be enough to make it hard to contend for victory at a track where he has won six times in 10 races.

In the Thursday press conference, Verstappen faced a barrage of questions about his approach to racing and his temperament but on Friday, he did his real talking - delivering a faultless display on a track where Red Bull was not expected to contend. Verstappen says the deficit was bigger on high fuel in FP2, but is encouraged by the rest of Red Bull's performance so far.

After two races in Europe, Formula One heads across the Atlantic to North America for the Canadian Grand Prix. "There was some electrical stuff going on that hindered us this morning and then this afternoon, so not the best day, but we're OK". On the same tires Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas lost to Hamilton more than half a second.

Verstappen was the fastest throughout all three practice sessions in Montreal but he could only secure a third-placed start. "But also Max was driving really well all weekend, so I won't take that away from him". He has a 14-point lead over Vettel and a 38-point edge on Ricciardo.

Tesla to layoff 9 percent of workforce
Tesla shares pared an earlier gain of as much as 6.9 per cent and were up 3.2 per cent to US$342.81 as of 2:21 p.m.in NY trading. Musk said the cutbacks would not affect the company's ability to reach Model 3 production targets in the coming months.

Hamilton will take some stopping considering he's finished outside the podium places in only one of the six races so far this season.

The leader, as in the first exercise, it became Verstappen with a time of 1.12,198.

Again, Kimi Raikkonen led the Ferrari charge in second place, but Monaco victor Daniel Ricciardo, who missed a large chunk of FP2 as mechanics rushed to fix a mechanical problem, was able to end the day third.

"I think if I get a few more I'll head-butt someone", he said, only slowly allowing a faint grin.

Tesla software upgrade leads to full autonomy
Tesla electric cars such as the Model S and Model X are known for their sleek looks, hefty price tags and rapid acceleration. Tesla CEO Elon Musk claims a new Tesla software update is coming in August that will bring more autonomy to Autopilot .

"It's all very close; disappointing to be at the tail end of that top pack but actually I don't think we could have done more." . I think we looked quite competitive and it was a positive start to the weekend. When you feel confident with the auto then you can do a good job. "But looking at where we were, it doesn't make me satisfied, but I feel like we did all we could with what we had".

Indeed Ricciardo could be thrown to the back of the pack, dependant on the number of engine parts his Red Bull team have to change.

"Happy with the progress we made today, " Verstappen tweeted. "It was waiting, waiting, waiting and eventually we got out". His best lap was the slowest in the field at 1:17.145, but he was there just to get the feel of an F1 vehicle and help the team test it on two types of tires. Fortunately the forecast looks good this year, with only partly cloudy skies predicted for both Saturday's qualifying and Sunday's race.
