Mr Trump will leave the country that same evening to return to the US.

A jet carrying Kim landed hours earlier.

What are the talks about?

"They have to de-nuke".

Before the summit meeting, Trump called the Japanese prime minister, Shinzo Abe, and the South Korean president, Moon Jae-in, to brief them on developments.

Trump and Kim will participate in a one-on-one meeting, with only translators, followed by an expanded meeting that will include Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Chief of Staff John Kelly and National Security Advisor John Bolton.

A formal end to the Korean war may also be discussed.

Trump may pardon Ali who doesn't need one
An earlier statement issued by Mr Tweel said while the Ali family appreciate President Trump's sentiment, a pardon is unnecessary. Late boxing legend Muhammad Ali was convicted of draft evasion for his Vietnam War protest and stripped of his heavyweight title.

The combatants of the 1950-53 Korean War are technically still at war, as the conflict, in which millions of people died, was concluded only with a truce.

How did we get here?

Joseph Yun, former US envoy for North Korea policy, alluded to that when he told a Senate hearing last week that there's a risk of "overloading the agenda" for the summit. Recently, Kim Jong Un sent him to the United States to hand-deliver a letter to Trump, making him North Korea's most senior official to visit its wartime foe in 18 years.

Trump vowed to prevent that happening and threatened North Korea with "fire and fury like the world has never seen".

It's unclear what Trump and Kim might decide Tuesday.

"The ultimate objective we seek from diplomacy with North Korea has not changed".

In a choice that seems to make light of a lot of really quite serious things at once, Twitter is promoting its new #TrumpKimSummit emoji for Tuesday's summit in Singapore.

Elder Scrolls: Blades: Everything you need to know!
While the announcement was somewhat overshadowed by Fallout 76 and the announcement of Elder Scrolls 6 , it's a nice little bonus. The first teaser revealed the rumored space-faring title Starfield , while the second revealed The Elder Scrolls 6 .

Commenting on his upcoming meeting with the North Korean dictator, President Trump said he will know very quickly whether the summit is going to be fruitful.

Still, the road to the Singapore talks has been far from smooth.

For Kim, about half Trump's age and representing the third generation of North Korea's ruling dynasty, the summit affords both him and his long-isolated country the worldwide legitimacy his father and grandfather could only dream of. "We are prepared to take what will be security assurances that are different, unique, than America's been willing to provide previously". Critics say ignoring the issue risks squandering leverage and abandoning the North's victims.

What do both sides want?

Although details are most likely to be determined later by working groups, the United States has already laid out the key principles it considers important: a complete, verifiable and irreversible termination of the DPRK's nuclear program.

"The old prejudices and practices worked as obstacles on our way forward, but we've overcome all of them and we are here today", Kim said.

Observers said that the heavy domestic focus of both leaders suggested that both would be determined to portray the outcome as a success, whatever was and was not agreed in their meeting at the Capella grand colonial-era hotel on Sentosa, a holiday resort advertised by Singapore as "the State of Fun".

Trump Vows to Deal With 'Unfair Trade' Ahead of Tense G7 Summit
Trump held a similarly tense phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau around the same time. Macron tweeted a video showing him sitting with Trump on a couch, talking amiably.
