Hurricane Bud strengthens off Mexico's Pacific coast

At its strongest, Bud should be a 115-mph Category 3 storm, the National Hurricane Center said.

The track forecast brings the center of Bud closest to the southern tip of Baja California and the area around Cabo San Lucas from Thursday into Friday morning, when maximum sustained winds are predicted to be about 55 miles per hour.

Earlier it had just barely crossed the threshold of wind strength to be classified a Category 4 storm.

With such an outstanding playing career behind him, Guti should automatically demand the respect of the Real Madrid players.

Infrared satellite imagery Tuesday shows the distinct 20 to 25 mile-wide eye, but also outer rainbands well removed from Bud near Puerto Vallarta, extending down the coast toward Manzanillo. The remnant moisture should move up into New Mexico and southeast Arizona.

According to the hurricane center, Bud should decrease in speed over the next few days as it approaches land.

Two major category 5 hurricanes, Irma and Maria, ploughed through the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the USA west coast during 2017's extremely active Atlantic storm season, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. In addition, rain from Bud "could cause life-threatening flash floods and mudslides in higher terrain".

NASA-NOAA's Suomi NPP flew over Hurricane Bud at about 4:45 a.m. EDT (0845 UTC) on June 11 and captured a night-time image of the storm.

But the official forecast from the hurricane center said that no tropical storms or hurricanes are forecast to develop in the next five days.

The next storm that forms in the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, or the Caribbean Sea will be given the name Beryl.
