Syria regime ‘no longer immune’ from retaliation: Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that his country does not regard the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad as "immune" if it allows Iran to entrench its forces along Israel's northern border.

Despite his shortcomings on the Iranian front, Netanyahu still managed to get these European nations to apply pressure on Iran, which could turn favorable for him in the future.

Mr Assad's regime is no longer immune.

Netanyahu said Tuesday that his main focus now is how to push Iranian forces out of Syria.

Last month, Israel launched a large-scale attack on purported Iranian targets in Syria following what it said was a barrage of rockets fired by Iran from the country toward its forces in the occupied Golan Heights.

Israel had been blamed for a series of recent strikes inside Syria that killed Iranians, though it has not acknowledged them, AFP reported.

Mr. Netanyahu responded by saying he was ensuring Iran did not get a nuclear weapon and on "how to roll back Iran's aggression in the region". However, the focus of his discussions in Europe had been on reducing Iran's presence in Syria, he added.
