Fekir is one of the best attacking players in Europe who would be a great signing or Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Lyon have called off negotiations for the sale of forward Nabil Fekir to Liverpool, the French club announced on Saturday.

However, Lyon said on Saturday that talks about the potential transfer of their captain "had not succeeded". "Olympique Lyonnais is delighted to be able to count on the presence of their captain in 2018-2019", Lyon said in a statement.

However, it does not look likely that any deal for Fekir will happen whilst France are in the World Cup, with Fekir being named as part of the 23 man squad that will play in Russian Federation. He joins the list alongside the likes of Naby Keita and Fabinho with the Reds still being expected to continue their spending spree this summer.

The French global, who is now with France national team ahead of the World Cup in Russian Federation, has been heavily linked with the Merseyside club, with reports suggesting a deal had been struck earlier this week.

Liverpool are concerned after Fekir had surgery on his right knee.

Liverpool might not want to let Lemar slip through their fingers this time - in January they came close to signing the player whilst in competition with Arsenal, as they sought to replace Philippe Coutinho.

Speculation is swirling about why the deal has not been rubber-stamped.

Fekir had been one of Liverpool's prime targets this summer as they looked to shore up their midfield and the club were willing to offer up to €55 million, plus another €5m in add-ons, for the France worldwide.

Liverpool did not attempt, suggest or offer to renegotiate any terms for Fekir. "There is something logical, it has already been done for others".
