Woman in fatal field crash held on $500K bail

A Vietnam War veteran killed while saving children from a woman who drove her vehicle onto a baseball field confessed five years ago to causing the death of a four-year-old girl in an alcohol-fuelled hit-and-run.

The 68-year-old grandfather tried to shut a gate at Goodall Park in Sanford in the U.S. eastern state of ME last Friday, but the crazed driver 51-year-old Sharrow hit him, and he died en route to hospital.

The 68-year-old man who was killed after a auto hit him at a Babe Ruth baseball field in Sanford previously confessed to an unsolved hit-and-run of a four-year-old in NY.

The pedestrian, Douglas Parkhurst of Sanford, died on his way to the hospital, police said.

Sharrow has two previous convictions for drunken driving, police said Monday morning, but authorities aren't saying whether alcohol was a factor in the incident Friday.

Carol Sharrow, 51, is being held on $500,000 cash bail and will undergo a mental health evaluation before she returns to court in September, according to the television station Monday.

President Trump cracked an 'awkward' joke about Melania: 'Did she leave him?'
He said the media had speculated that the first lady may have left him, before pointing out that she was sitting in the front row. It started on May 10, when the 48-year-old welcomed home three American detainees released by North Korea with husband Donald.

Ashby's sister Darlene was with her the day she was killed and says the family now feels they have closure. "I did not see what I hit".

"I personally think the best thing for these boys is to get back on the ball field", he said.

Parkhurst had confessed five years ago to a 1968 hit-and-run death in NY.

Darlene Ashby McCann, who was holding her little sister's hand when she was struck, said that Mr Parkhurst never apologised.

"For a second, I didn't know if somebody had tried to grab Carolee from me, " Darlene later recounted, "I knew immediately that Carolee was not there".

"It's like a complete circle now, he went out the way he took my sister out".

Lava from Hawaii volcano destroys hundreds more homes
Homes in Kapoho Beach Lots and Vacationland are on smaller lots and are closer together than in other parts of the Puna district. Lava destroyed hundreds of homes in mostly rural Hawaii area overnight, a county spokeswoman said.

Sharrow's attorney, Robert Ruffner of Portland, declined to comment on a possible motive.

Sanford police Detective Sgt. Matthew Jones said Sharrow has a drunken-driving conviction in ME and an aggravated drunken-driving conviction in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

"We want to share our heartfelt gratitude that physically all of the players from Babe Ruth and Little League are safe, " the Sanford Maine Little League posted on Facebook following the incident.

That's when Parkhurst was met at his then-home in Oswego, New York, by two investigators from the Fulton (New York) Police Department, according to the Press Herald. When showed a picture of his Buick Special, Parkhurst said he did not know if he was driving it at the time. He didn't remember hitting the brakes. Prosecutors have not said if Sharrow had been drinking Friday. "Now it is time to move on", McCann said. "I can't change anything but I hope this apology will be accepted and I beg for forgiveness", he wrote in a four-page confession.

"I pitched to one batter and then I heard, like, rubber burning and everyone looked up and then I heard screaming", Zachary McMurtry told ABC affiliate WMTW in Maine. "Sometime I may be able to forgive him, but not right now".

Gronkowski is a 12-1 long shot, no doubt attractive odds for his part-owner Rob Gronkowski, the New England Patriots tight end. Hofburg, who is trained by the Hall of Famer Bill Mott, drew Post 4 and was made the second choice at 9-2.
