The NFL's policy states that players and league personnel on the field before a game will "stand and show respect for the flag and the Anthem" and the team will be fined if individuals on the sideline "do not show proper respect for the flag and Anthem". In addition to requiring team personnel to stand, the rule states that players who choose not to stand must stay off the field otherwise they'll receive a fine. He said he was "crushed" when Trump called the protesting players "sons of b-ches".

On his reaction to the president saying that players who kneel shouldn't be in the country: "Everyone has their opinion, and they are entitled to their opinion".

"Well, I think that's good", Trump told Fox and Friends. "Basically, just trying to use the anthem as fake patriotism, nationalism, trying to scare people". You shouldn't be there. "Maybe you shouldn't be in the country", the president said.
