Fortnite adds competitive Solo Showdown mode for limited time

Aside from the massive bragging rights and fame that can be obtained via this limited time event, there's also the matter of the V-Bucks rewards.

Solo Showdown is now underway and runs until 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET on May 21.

The maximum score that a player can achieve is 5,000, but that would mean finishing in first place for all 50 of your Solo Showdown matches.

Tyler "Ninja" Blevins continues to defy the laws of Fortnite: Battle Royale with an insane Solo-Squad 1v7 that will have you on the edge of your seat. The next top-100 finishers will claim virtual prizes too.

Unlike previous limited-time modes, Solo Showdown doesn't feature any gimmicks or changes to the underlying gameplay. The cumulative scores from these 50 matches will be considered to keep any players from taking the shortcut. You must compete in at least 50 matches of the Solo Showdown mode.

And a note for people who suck at Fortnite like me: everybody who finishes their 50 qualifying matches will get an exclusive in-game spray regardless of performance.

There's 50,000 V-Bucks in store for first place, 25,000 V-Bucks for those ranked second through fourth, 13,500 V-Bucks for fifth to 50th, and 7,500 V-Bucks for the rest. The big reward of the game mode is V-Bucks-the game's currency for cosmetic items. If and when Epic does announce a Fortnite competitive mode, you'll be the first to know.

Epic announced that the objective of launching this mode is just the first step in helping it learn "how to build great events for all types of players".

Epic Games will also have a huge presence at this year's E3, with even a huge "celebrity driven" party to bring players all over the world together in one room.
