Mom hears screams, sees bear drag off her 5 year-old daughter

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office said no charges will be sought against the parents of a 5-year-old girl who was attacked by a bear in Grand Junction. Her name wasn't disclosed by local authorities.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife says officers are tracking the bear with the help of federal wildlife officers.

Deputies learned the family went to bed around 1:30 am after having waiting up for their father to return home from a trip.

Her mother went outside, the release said, when she heard screaming.

In 911 recordings released Monday and obtained by CBS affiliate KREX, the girl's father calmly says the bear "picked her up by her butt" with his mouth.

The woman told Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officers that her daughter went outside at about 2.30am on Sunday, Mother's Day in the U.S., after hearing noises she thought might be coming from her dog.

The bear will be euthanized if caught, and then sent to Fort Collins facility for necropsy.

The girl's mother heard screaming.
