How to watch Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson go head-to-head today

Tiger Woods managed a 1-under-par 35-36=71 during round two of THE PLAYERS Championship, good for a two-day tally of 1-under 143, just barely squeezing through the cut line to earn a Saturday tee time.

Woods battled afternoon winds during the first round at Florida's famed TPC Sawgrass as he plummeted to two over on the front nine, before steadying the ship with an eagle at the par-5 ninth.

The 42-year-old was staring at a six when he pushed his third to the right of the green and his pitch pulled up 10 feet short, but he rattled in the putt to limit the damage to a bogey which left him at level par.

After playing his first 13 holes in even par, the 47-year-old's day started to unravel beginning on the par-4 14th, where he almost pushed his tee shot into the water left, laid up sort of the green, then took four more strokes to find the bottom of the cup. It was his worst score at TPC Sawgrass since 2000.

Woods and Mickelson have played together 36 times in 25 events, with each beating the other on 16 occasions and four ending in ties.

However former world No.1 Woods, nonetheless easing his manner again into aggressive golf, mentioned: "No, what my enjoying companions are doing, there's too many guys on the market which might be enjoying very well and going low, and my duty was to go low and shoot one thing within the crimson [under par] at this time". "If we were able to put all of our facets of the game together I think there would be a lot more tournament winners out here".

"I actually really like it", said Mickelson, who is brand ambassador and equity holder in the menswear brand Mizzen and Main.

"I think it is going to be an incredible event and it will surprise everybody".

On Friday, the result was par, par, par (15 total) and a roar-less gallery, which had little reason to erupt as playing partners Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler also struggled and missed the cut. Woods (72) wasn't a whole lot better on a day when 68 guys were under par.

Woods felt he should have broken into the 60s across his first 18 holes of the week, and is targeting improvements off the tee to achieve that on Friday.

"Boy, it was nice to turn the round completely around there", he said. "I feel like it helps bring out the best in me, but just didn't get it going today". "So I tried to kind of roll out and go real slow".

Woods finished with five straight pars to get in at one-under 143 for the week, a total that's likely to make the cut on the number.

Chaves edges new Giro leader Yates on Stage 6
It was good that with not the best legs I could still hang on", said Dumoulin in his post-stage media responsibilities. Yates added: "I felt really good, I looked across the road and everyone was looking at each other".

Even Mickelson's fashion statement was a flop during Thursday's first round. I don't know what else to say, just the ability to focus and have energy at the end of the day, and I sensed it Sunday at Wells Fargo.
