Trump warns Iran against restarting nuclear program

"Any nation that helps Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons could also be strongly sanctioned by the United States".

But it's a mistake to apply rational analysis to Trump's action, because this was an emotional decision, not a rational one.

"The whole U.S. withdrawal from this deal is illegal. Last week, Israel published intelligence documents, long concealed by Iran, conclusively showing the Iranian regime and its history of pursuing nuclear weapons", Donald Trump said in White House remarks on May 8.

The United States will not stop funding intense International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections in Iran, despite its pull-out from the nuclear deal with Tehran, a USA official says. He said previous year that it should be torn up if Washington pulled out.

As the Iran nuclear deal was negotiated by a number of global powers and mediated by the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a unilateral withdrawal of such global actor as the United States may negatively affect the whole system of the international organizations.

Uncertainty is hanging over the future of the Iran nuclear deal following the USA decision to withdraw.

United Kingdom central bank keeps interest rates low as economy slows
Investors pushed back their bets on when rates would rise, and sterling slid close to a four-month low against the dollar. The unemployment forecast was revised down somewhat further and is now expected to level out at 4.0 percent in 2019.

"That's pretty tough talk", the senior European Union official said.

President Donald Trump's announcement that the United States will leave the deal means that Washington will begin reinstating sanctions.

Earlier, Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei chastised Mr Trump, while MPs set fire to a USA flag inside parliament, shouting, "Death to America!". So any ground fighting between Iran and its enemies would be more likely to happen in the countries between them: Syria and Iraq.

The agreement saw worldwide sanctions on Tehran lifted in exchange for Iran curbing its controversial nuclear program.

Rouhani also told Macron that Iran's rights under the 2015 nuclear deal - particularly those related to oil sales, banking and investment - must be "guaranteed", ISNA reported.

At a Tuesday meeting between European and Iranian officials in Brussels, Iran said it would stay in the deal if the Europeans could keep their own financial commitments and also make up for the loss Tehran would face as a result of the new U.S. sanctions, according to a European diplomat.

Eurovision ends contract with Chinese broadcaster after it didn't show Irish entry
The song Together by Irish contestant Ryan O'Shaughnessy was one of those removed from Wednesday's show. At the post-show press conference, Mauboy credited the audience for lifting her performance.

War with Iran is not imminent, former national security adviser Yaakov Nagel said on Wednesday. China, which is in the midst of a trade spat with the US, is expected to continue buying Iranian crude. "I have no faith in him anymore", said Reza Azarpanah, a 32-year-old construction worker who voted for Rouhani in 2017.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Trump's decision meant European leaders would need to step up. "The president took a decision, but it does not bind his European partners", the official said.

So it's hard to see how this can be good for the U.S. even on Trump's own terms - putting America first. "Contacts with American authorities are ongoing".

"Trump's abandoning of the nuclear deal was a diplomatic show..." What it can do-and what Trump has promised to do-is attempt to force the deal to collapse by also imposing sanctions on countries that do business with Iran.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed USA ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, advised German companies doing business with Iran to "wind down operations immediately" in a post on Twitter.
