Report without bias, Buhari advises journalists

The meeting with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday comes after an uncomfortable start to the Trump administration's approach to the world's second most populous continent.

"I gave (Police authorities) them this directive, " he said.

While he further described their action as libelous, Obasanjo lamented that instead of addressing the fundamental issues of statecraft and economy, they were engaging in spreading falsehoods.

A prominent civil rights body - HUMAN RIGHTS WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIA (HURIWA) has tasked President Muhammadu Buhari to take concrete measures to ensure the respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry to justify his recent affirmations during his meeting with President Donald Trump of the United States.

The phones were reportedly thrown onto the flames in Stamford Hill, north London , as a "warning against the evil of smartphones". Around thirty individuals are believed to have been treated for their injuries, with ten being taken to hospital.

The president, who expressed reservation on the call for the establishment of state police as being advocated by state governors, said Nigerians must abide by constitutional provision in regard to the matter.

On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, which comes up Thursday, the president pledged an unfettered environment for the media to do its work but notes that responsibility is reciprocal, and journalists should be mindful of fairness, justice, and national interest at all times. Any time he visits Abuja, he usually stays in a Guest House or hotel.

"After watching "Buhari's" cringe worthy body language and cowed persona during the meet the press session at the Rose Garden, like a cat trapped under the headlights of an oncoming vehicle, we knew that whatever stern warning you delivered to him must have shocked him to the bone-marrow".

"All these explanations I made, they refused to highlight them in their report and you know the media in Nigeria in most cases only do what they like", VOA quoted him as saying.

However, the company's revenue reached 114.62 billion Yuan ($18 billion) in 2017, which is up by 67.5 per cent against 2016. But it did lose $6.8 billion (43.9 billion yuan) that year, mainly from issuing preferred shares to investors.

The remarks follow weeks of mounting criticism and protests against Buhari and his administration at home for what many allege is insufficient action to protect Nigerian Christians from the Islamic State affiliate Boko Haram and militant Muslim Fulani herdsmen, responsible for hundreds of deaths so far in 2018 alone, and an estimated 60,000 people since 2001.

According to him, the president will also flag-off the operations of the state social committee which was recently established by law.

"Chief Obasanjo understands that the internet has good and bad uses. We hope now Buhari will heed Trump's advice which hopefully will be considered non-abusive", Obasanjo added. Those abusing the media should desist from this barbaric act as it will only expose them to greater ridicule at the end of the day.

Netanyahu calls Abbas 'anti-Semite' for saying Jews not persecuted for religion
Apparently in the Arab world, too, Jews brought upon themselves the anti-Jewish persecution and violence they so often faced. In 1982 Abbas obtained a doctorate in history at the Moscow Institute of Orientalism in the then-Soviet Union.
