Larry Harvey, Burning Man founder, dies

Burning Man CEO Marian Goodell reported that Larry Harvey died at a San Francisco hospital, after receiving medical treatment since suffering a stroke 3 weeks ago. Less than a week later, on April 4th, Lee Harvey suffered the massive stroke that would eventually claim his life.

"A humanist at heart, Larry did not believe in any sort of existence after death", longtime friend Stuart Mangrum said Saturday. The week-long festival attracts some 70,000 people who pay anywhere from $425 to $1,200 a ticket to travel to a dry lake bed 100 miles (161 kilometers) east of Reno, where temperatures can routinely reach 100 degrees (37.8 degrees Celsius) during the summer.

After the celebration ended, a towering wooden effigy is burned to the ground.

He started Burning Man at age 38 alongside his friend Jerry James.

Donald Trump welcomes US Olympics team to White House, several no-shows
Kenworthy and Vonn have both previously expressed their disagreements toward the Trump administration on various issues. Trump didn't end up alone on Friday, of course - dozens of athletes from the Winter Games showed up to the party.

A statement on the Burning Man website paid tribute to Harvey, describing him as a "visionary".

"Both Burning Man and the internet make it possible to regather the tribe of mankind", he told The New York Times in 1997.

By the turn of the century the festival had transformed not only the surrounding towns and cities, it had caused a global art movement, as smaller satellite events under the Burning Man rubric sprang up around the globe.

Within a few years the event had outgrown Baker Beach and moved to the desert.

One-Handed Player Shaquem Griffin Makes NFL History With Seahawks Draft
As if Shaquem Griffin wasn't already the greatest feel-good story of this year's NFL Draft, it got even better Saturday afternoon. There was hope he would be a Day 2 (second or third round) pick, but Griffin remained patient and then the Seahawks called.

The gathering has grown to about 70,000 people in Nevada's Black Rock Desert and a "Vitruvian Man" figure past year stood at 70 feet tall.

Although known for retaining its joyful celebrative atmosphere as it grew from a small gathering to one of huge proportions, Burning Man occasionally had its problems. Last year, a man died after running into the burning flames and suffering burns on nearly his entire body. The three-day "zone trip" morphed into an eight-day spectacle that attracted roughly 70,000 people a year ago. In 1996, a man was killed when his motorcycle and a van carrying festival-goers collided. That's when a skeletal five-story-tall wood and neon man-shaped statue, stuffed with fireworks, is set ablaze.

Harvey is survived by his son, Tristan, his brother, Stewart, and his nephew, Bryan.

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge name their third child Louis
It turns out that the correct way to pronounce the new baba's name is Loo-ee, and it is actually a nod to the Royal family's past. Did you go with multiple middle names for your baby? Prince Charles was a month old before his name was made public.
