Canadian landscaper charged with eighth murder

February 23, 2018 _ Police lay a sixth charge of first-degree murder against McArthur, identify Navaratnam as one of the alleged victims whose remains were found in the planters.

The alleged serial killer is already facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of seven other men.

Idsinga said the remains were the seventh and final set found inside planters located at a home on Mallory Crescent.

Kanagaratnam, who arrived in Canada in 2010 from Sri Lanka and lived in Scarborough, had not been reported missing, according to police.

Toronto police were able to identify Kanagaratnam with the help of an global government agency after circulating a photo of him that was found during their investigation.

A police source told CBC News that police had found Kanagaratnam's photo on McArthur's computer, but his identity was unknown at the time.

Toronto Police are still working on the massive case, so it's possible Bruce McArthur may be charged with more crimes as evidence continues to surface.

He added that if McArthur is connected to any historic murders in the city and there are grounds to lay charges, the case would likely be separate from the current case before the courts. Police have said he was never reported missing and unlike McArthur's other alleged victims, Kanagaratnam had no clear ties to the LGBTQ community.
