Justin Gaethje Promises Five More Unmissable Fights In His MMA Career

Gaethje's loss to Poirer was named fight of the night, the second consecutive card the 29-year-old has received the honour, and the Arizona native speaks with a level of confidence that makes you believe that he nearly expects to be in "fight of the night" calibre bouts.

What remains unsure, however, is whether Poirier will get his wish for an instant title shot. Eddie Alvarez is perhaps the only other lightweight that has a title claim, but he may need to get past Poirier first.

"As I thought about the possibilities this fight could take, I knew I would have to dig down deep, I knew trouble would present itself", Poirier said. Poirier was able to buy some time, though, and he made it back to the center of the Octagon, where he was able to score with more hard shots. I think she does.

"I go in there to entertain people". I want the biggest fights possible.

Gaethje earned the nickname "The Highlight" for his hyper aggressive style, but Poirier took the fight to him. Late in the round, Poirier saw a couple takedown attempts come up empty, and it was Gaethje missing, but thrilling the crowd, with a flip at his foe.

Poirier connected on 174 significant strikes in the bout, with 142 of those going to the head alone of Gaethje.

"This guy would've died in here if Herb Dean didn't stop it", Poirier said. Coming off two losses, that's hard to say, but you want to see me fight. I felt so comfortable in there and so good, the best I've ever felt. With a little over three minutes left, Gaethje stunned Poirier with a punch upstairs, and as the fight went to the fence, Gaethje went on the attack. Hot prospect Israel Adesanya continued to show promise but couldn't finish his fight against Marvin Vettori. Michelle Waterson opened the main card with a split-decision victory over Cortney Casey in a technical straw weight fight.
