Badminton: Aggressive Saina trumps Sindhu to clinch gold

Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal's mother, Usha Rani on Sunday expressed happiness at her victory in the women's singles title in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Towards the end of the second game, it was a see-saw battle.

In the event, Saina came through the searching examination with flying colours.

The Indian star then comfortably overcame Yu, who won the women's doubles crown with Feng yesterday, 11-7, 11-6, 11-2, 11-7. Also, this was for the first time where both the men's and the women's team bagged top honour in table tennis event.

Post this win, the 28-year-old and former World No. 1, Saina, consolidated her overall head-to-head record against Sindhu to 4-1. She stayed on. It was a close match and it could have gone either way. The second game followed a similar tangent and despite having the more exhausted set of legs, Saina was a delight with her trademark angled smashes. "It was a neck to neck game for me, it was even tougher because I have been playing for the last 10-12 days". "For her (Sindhu), it is still alright because she is still coming up", says Saina, suggesting that she's often left to deal with the harsher judgement.

Soon after Saina's triumph, PV Sindhu set up a dream final against her by winning her semi-final against Canada's Michelle Li 21-18, 21-8.

Nehwal impressed one and all with her performance.

In Badminton Men's singles final, Kidambi Srikanth lost to Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei, settling for the Silver. This is likely his last Commonwealth Games and if this is to be true, it was a fitting send-off for the Indian veteran.

Sindhu took two back to back points take a 6-4 lead before Saina reduced the gap with a deceptive smash that totally outfoxed her rival. Her younger opponent, Sindhu, had to remain content with a silver medal. On another hand, PV Sindhu improved on her Commonwealth 2014, where she won a bronze, as she secured silver this time.

The result of the match, though, was inconsequential as people from all quarters of India took to social media to hail two of country's daughters for bringing home laurels. He managed to implement that strategy in the first game, controlling the net and troubling Lee constantly with his leaping overhead smashes to either flank. And once he cut down on his speedy, attacking mien, Srikanth was like a ship adrift in the maelstrom of Lee's controlled aggression.

Red Sox fans zeroed in on Giancarlo Stanton , delighting in his shortcomings over the three-game series. "I have no idea". Sanchez also wasn't hitting well, bringing a 1-for-33 (.030) slump into Wednesday's game. "I'm not sure", Gray said.

Saina continued to fight hard, attempting to chip away at the deficit.
