Still, in the wake of data privacy scandals like Facebook's recent Cambridge Analytica incident, it's nice to see companies like Google offering their users extra privacy features.

Based on those screenshots, expiring emails work pretty much like expiring emails in ProtonMail. This might not be a problem in practical terms, considering the fact that the message will still be unreadable, but it's a little different than deleting an old email completely. Google is reportedly introducing a confidential mode that will prevent the recipient from downloading, printing, copying, pasting or forwarding the message you send them.

The Mountain View giant has also admitted that upcoming changes might affect several browser add-ons for Gmail. Of course, these features won't restrict the receiver's ability to store the email's content via taking a screenshot or capture a photo from another device.
