New York Knicks fire Jeff Hornacek as head coach

Without much talent to work with, the Knicks never established a clear identity, frustrating Hornacek with their defensive inconsistency (they are ranked 22nd in defense) and looking a step behind the league's best offenses.

This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has been following the New York Knicks, even slightly, this season as the team as officially announced that they have relieved head coach Jeff Hornacek of his duties.

Kurt Rambis, the associate head coach, was also dismissed, the Knicks said in a statement from the president, Steve Mills, and the general manager, Scott Perry.

The Knicks finished this season 29-53, good for 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

NY made the first of what are expected to be several coaching changes this offseason, joining Milwaukee, Phoenix and Memphis on the market.

Hornacek was 60-104 (.366) overall in his two seasons at the helm in NY.

Former team president Phil Jackson hired Hornacek in 2016.

The Knicks will also be entering an enticing free-agent market in the summer of 2019. NY also plans to contact Jerry Stackhouse, the head coach of Toronto 905, the Toronto Raptors' G League affiliate, according to sources.

Jeff Hornacek and the New York Knicks were impressive at the start of the season but haven't been able to accomplish much as the season has progressed, especially after Kristaps Porzingis went down with an injury.
