Cheater! Billy Mitchell stripped of scores, banned from premiere scoreboard

"According to our findings, Steve Wiebe would be the official 1st million point record holder".

Billy Mitchell was stripped of his Donkey Kong and other video game high scores following the decision that he cheated, Twin Galaxies announced Thursday. A keen-eyed gamer named Jeremey Young noticed that Mitchell's recordings of breaking the record revealed that he was not playing on the original arcade console, which is a requirement for Twin Galaxies and Guinness. This tape is the one referenced above, has now been struck from the record, amongst others, because it can not be definitively proven that an emulator wasn't used.

Twin Galaxies, the American governing body that keeps track of arcade high scores, has finished an investigation into allegations that Michell achieved some of his famous high scores through unofficial means. "The use of MAME or any other emulation software for submission to these leaderboards is strictly forbidden", Twin Galaxies. It's like seeing the "Game Over" screen and realizing you've run out of quarters.

Khloe Kardashian and National Basketball Association player Tristan Thompson welcome baby girl
Some believe that the stress of the Tristan Thompson cheating scandal may have sent Khloe into labor early. Khloe Kardashian is reportedly "being the bigger person" amid Tristan Thompson's cheating drama.

Mitchell, who said in February that the "original tape" would vindicate his scores (and that he never used MAME), chose not to directly respond to Twin Galaxies questions about those performances, the administration said (he has also not responded to a request for comment from Ars Technica). We have several different and unique sources of these performances and access to private historical Twin Galaxies referee e-mail distribution records showing where these sources acquired their copies and what the goal was.

Of course, over a decade later both Mitchell's and Wiebe's records have been beaten many times with the current record, set by 31-year-old Robbie Lakeman, being 1,247,700. The following investigation has led to Mitchell's banishment from Twin Galaxies as a competitor.

Of significant note is that it is very straightforward for anyone to check the authenticity of the 1047 performance source tape by just cross-referencing the digital capture video of the performance that has been posted in this dispute thread with the very public "King of Kong" movie gameplay footage along with its DVD extras. While Twin Galaxies can't prove Mitchell's scores were achieved on MAME specifically, they do know for a fact that none of his high scores were achieved through an unmodified arcade system. This kind of testing is beyond the scope of the dispute case needs. He is one of less than 20 players to have achieved a verified score of more than a million points.

Benches Clear In Wild Brawl During Rockies-Padres Game
Ellis near the San Diego dugout and had to be held back, with Padres bench coach Mark McGwire helping keep them separated. Now the Rockies, 6-7, head to Washington for a four-game series beginning Thursday against the powerful Nationals.

"With this ruling Twin Galaxies can no longer recognize Billy Mitchell as the 1st million point Donkey Kong record holder".

The ban has no effect on the current world record in Donkey Kong, which now sits at the 1.247 million points set by Robbie Lakeman in February.
