Uber has acquired San Francisco bike-sharing service Jump

Uber announced Monday morning it will acquire the electric bike-share company Jump, which now operates in San Francisco and Washington, DC. When the Brooklyn team started working with Uber in the development of Uber Bike, a new feature on the Uber app, the Jump team was wary. The ride-sharing company started allowing its users to use bikes from the service in February.

By sweeping up JUMP, Uber adds a bike sharing company with 10 years of experience to its portfolio and can begin adding bike sharing options to its app alongside its more familiar ride sharing offers.

Uber is side stepping this controversy with the purchase of Jump Bikes.

"Joining Uber presents us with the opportunity to realize our dreams faster and at a much larger scale". It would be the first acquisition for Uber since Dara Khosrowshahi took over as the company's chief executive in August.

Unlike with many municipal bike-sharing programs, JUMP bicycles are dockless.

Danny Welbeck only focused on Arsenal as World Cup approaches
Southampton looked to have earned a point when Cedric Soares found Charlie Austin to turn in an equaliser on 73 minutes. But with just nine minutes left on the clock, Welbeck grabbed the victor , moments after a poor miss from close range.

Why it happened: Uber says it's "committed to bringing together multiple modes of transportation" so that its customers "can choose the fastest or most affordable way" to get around.

"The utilization of the bikes has been higher than expected", Khosrowshahi said. "In the end we will want as many bikes as possible for the urban consumer", he said.

"Our ultimate goal is. making it easier to live without owning a personal auto", Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a blog post announcing the deal.

JUMP Bikes seems to acknowledge this in their own announcement.

Mr Khosrowshahi described the platform as a "stellar product".

Tom Keegan said last week that the request would be "promptly reviewed to determine how best we can assist our federal partners". Abbott told the San Antonio radio station KTSA that Texas would increase the number of troops it deploys by 300 each week.

JUMP is a dockless electric bike service that has rolled out in San Francisco, where it has 250 bikes, and Washington.

Uber is expanding beyond four wheels and is jumping right into the dockless bike wars. It's widely thought the company's collapse was in part attributable to ill-considered criticism of China's ruling party, surely something not even Uber at its brashest would attempt?

This way, the e-bikes don't need designated parking spots and can be picked up and dropped off anywhere.

There are over a thousand different bike-sharing companies now in operation across the world.

"When we first began talking to Uber they were going through an extremely hard time, with negative headlines each week and a massive change in leadership", writes JUMP Bikes founder and CEO Ryan Rzepecki in the obligatory Medium post.
