NY Trump Tower Fire On 50th Floor Out, One Injured

Firefighters were sweeping adjacent apartments and stairwells to determine the source of the blaze in one of the skyscraper's residential apartments, according to fire officials.

The city buildings department said Sunday the building did have working hard-wired smoke detectors, and that the fire department was first notified of the blaze by the detectors in the building's heating and ventilation system. "This is a very hard fire, as you can imagine". As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 storeys up.

Saturday evening, flames and smoke billowed from the building during the four-alarm fire, raining debris on the Mahattan streets below. "We had many floors to search, and stairways, and right now the only civilian injury is to the occupant of that apartment". The blaze, which broke out on the 50th floor and was kept contained to that area, marks the second fire at Trump's Fifth Avenue building this year. He said it had been "very confined" as the tower is a "well-built building". "Firemen (and women) did a great job", the president wrote on Twitter at 6:42 p.m.

Facebook Will Notify Those Affected by Data Breach
This follows the New Zealand Privacy Commission's announcement that Facebook had also breached the Privacy Act in New Zealand. The company doesn't have logs going back that far, he said, so it can't know exactly how many people may have been affected.

President Donald Trump congratulated firefighters and tweeted that the fire was out.

A fire that ripped through a Trump Tower apartment claimed the life of a Westchester native. The injured man, art dealer Todd Brassner, 67, later died. He did spend $3 million to install sprinklers at Trump World Tower, though he was not legally required to because he had filed the building permit before the law was passed.

China's President Promises 'Significantly Lower' Auto Tariffs
Trump said in a statement Thursday evening that his latest proposed tariffs came 'in light of China's unfair retaliation'. Chinese President Xi Jinping will deliver a keynote speech at the Boao Forum for Asia on Tuesday.

Trump's family has an apartment on the top floors of the 58-story building, but the president has spent little time in NY since taking office. Subsequent updates to the building code required commercial skyscrapers to install the sprinklers retroactively, but owners of older residential high-rises are not required to install sprinklers unless the building undergoes major renovations.

CNN reported that the upper residential floors of Trump Tower - including the 50th floor destroyed by fire - are not equipped with sprinklers.

The commissioner of the New York Fire Department said that the building stood up well despite not having sprinklers in the units.

It would be the first acquisition for Uber since Dara Khosrowshahi took over as the company's chief executive in August. JUMP is a dockless electric bike service that has rolled out in San Francisco, where it has 250 bikes, and Washington.
