"No one should get sick and die just because they are poor, or because they can not access the health service they need", said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus in a message ahead of the annual April 7 observance, which is the foundation day of the now 70 year old UN's health agency.

World Health Organization also notes that treatment and essential services have improved since for the first time, more than half of all people living with HIV in Africa (14 million) have access to life-saving HIV treatment.

The theme of this year's celebration of global health is "Good Health Adds Life To Years".

The theme of this year's World Health Day is Universal Health Coverage: everyone, everywhere.

The health and family welfare ministry, directorate general of health services and different non-government organisations are also observing the day. Starting one World Health Day, through a series of event, WHO aims to inspire, motivate and guide UHC stakeholders to make commitments towards UHC.

Ensuring universal health coverage will help strengthen health security by making it easier to contain the spread of infectious diseases and respond effectively to natural disasters that the WHO South-East Asia Region is prone to.

While stressing the importance of observing World Health Day, Director Health Services, Kashmir, Dr Saleem ur Rehman said that all people should be able to realize their right to the highest possible level of health. But half the world's population is still unable to obtain the health services they need.

Afternoon highs Thursday will be in the upper 30s to lower 40s, about ten degrees warmer than they were on Wednesday . The weekend will be slightly warmer, with highs in the low 40s and a 40 percent chance of precipitation Sunday .

Universal health coverage has become a major goal for health reform in many countries and is a priority objective of the WHO.

New WHO recommendations for earlier treatment, efforts to access cheaper generic medicines and innovative partnerships have produced vaccines against meningitis, Ebola and the world's first for malaria.

However, this World Health Day, which is also the 70th anniversary of World Health Organization, Shilpa chose to address the very relevant topics of how to manage indulgence and make mindful dietary choices.
