Huawei's 2017 sales numbers are in - massive growth across the board

The growing market share in Europe has helped Huawei compensate for problems in the US. Unfortunately, the handset won't be sold in the US, to the disappointment of many consumers.

Channel NewsAsia reports that Richard Yu, the company's CEO of the consumer business group, said that "even without the United States market, we'll be number one in the world".

Huawei has been making headlines in the United States in recent weeks not because of a phone launch, but because the USA government has turned the Chinese vendor into a target. "We would never compromise that trust", he stated. Much of trouble that Huawei has been faced with comes as US authorities are concerned about its close ties to the Chinese government. At the last minute, however, AT&T backed out of the agreement, after what's believed to have included warnings against the deal by government officials.

Yu also talked up the relationships his company has with other major global carriers around the world, seemingly to suggest that the the only country with these security fears. "The security risk concerns are based on groundless suspicions and are quite frankly unfair", Yu wrote, adding that he welcomes frank discussion as long as it's based in facts. Huawei says it's open to conversations with the USA government as long as the talks are "based on facts". This is the company's latest experience to compete directly with Apple and Samsung in high-end devices.

Huawei is now the third-largest phone maker in the world. The company's revenue in North and South America shrank 11% to 39 billion CNY. In the back of their minds was a report from 2012 that claimed Huawei and ZTE use their phones and networking equipment to spy on US corporations and consumers.

Huawei is committed to the US market.
