Lok Sabha adjourned till 12 pm amid protest

Andhra Pradesh's ruling party had yesterday offered to back the YSR Congress' no-confidence motion but has now said it withdraws the support as it smells a nexus between it and the BJP. These are the first such motions against the present government. The Speaker clarified that No Confidence Motion can be taken up only when the house is in order but certain party MPs continued their protests. Congress has always stood by its promises to the people.

Speaking to a national news agency, party's senior member of Rajya Sabha Dr Keshav Rao, termed no-confidence motion as a political drama and made it clear that his party will not vote against it.

TDP and the YSR Congress led by N Chandrababu Naidu are extremely unhappy that the Centre has not given special status to Andhra Pradesh.

The Speaker didn't take notices last week, as she said the House was not in order.

An upset Naidu said Parliament has become a "laughing stock" because of repeated adjournments due to the protests from the Well of the House.

Once no-confidence motion notice is moved, support of at least 50 MPs is needed to admit the motion, which is followed by voting. BJP alone has 274 MPs. The BJP has 273 - more than the half-way mark of 270. The Shiv Sena taunts the BJP saying the party's tally in the next Lok Sabha elections could drop by 100-odd seats going by the current trends. However, as her pleas fell on deaf ears, the house was adjourned for the day, minutes after it reconvened. Looks like, BJP is going to have very hard time in AP. "We aren't afraid of the no-confidence motion, we have numbers in Parliament".

The party added that "the Modi wave is over".

For the 11th consecutive day, parliamentary proceedings were stalled and disrupted, both in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, on Monday.

Shiv Sena, AIADMK and TRS are expected to be neutral and may abstain from voting.

Meanwhile, TDP MP J C Divakar Reddy said the Chair's ruling was "unacceptable and unfortunate".

Both parties have been lobbying with opposition parties for support to their respective notices. He said he waited for four years to get a special status for the state as was promised at the time of passing of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
