Jets trade up to get No. 3 pick from Colts

The Jets will send the 6th, 37th and 49th overall picks this year and their second-rounder in 2019 to the Colts.

After failing to land quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Jets will likely land a top quarterback with the move from No. 6 to No. 3.

This leaves no doubt that the Jets are going after an elite quarterback. Those sentiments were solidified on Saturday morning when the Jets completed a blockbuster trade, according to ESPN, with the Indianapolis Colts to move up in the draft. With trading down, the Colts have the ability to acquire more talent and get good value with those picks.

Numerous 2018 National Football League mock drafts throughout the recent weeks and months have projected that reigning Heisman victor and former Oklahoma Sooners star gunslinger Baker Mayfield will be selected by the New York Jets. How many QB's have the Jets brought in only to fail? Instead, the high-water mark for Barkley in the draft has to be the New York Giants with the second pick.

Earlier indications were that the Bills would jump ahead of the Dolphins and the Jets holding two first round picks at number 12 and number 22. From here on out, it's all about the draft, and the Jets move to the third-overall pick will trigger a handful of other trades as well, with the ripples of this transaction spreading around the league and impacting war rooms far and wide. Winning football games is important for the Jets.

NY re-signed Josh McCown and added free agent Teddy Bridgewater, but are still looking for a quarterback. Three years later Big Blue took Heisman Trophy victor Ron Dayne out of Wisconsin at No. 11 while the Jets took DE Shaun Ellis a pick later.

With this deal, NY has a chance to find its new face of the franchise. That is the biggest x-factor in this: what the New York Giants do. That is, if the Colts don't do some more wheeling and dealing before the April 26-28 draft with their plethora of picks.
