Why nearly 100 Winn-Dixie stores are to be closed in USA

94 stores will close, many of which will have their related leases rejected and lease rejection claims rendered unimpaired.

Bi-Lo's decision to close six local stores could exacerbate a problem Charlotte already has with serving lower-income areas with little access to fresh groceries - also known as food insecure areas.

Long-time hometown grocery store, Winn-Dixie, will be closing its doors on Schillinger Road.

Southeastern, which is based in Jacksonville, said it has reached a restructuring agreement with a group of creditors holding 80 percent of its debt, which comes due in September.

The closure list does includes stores 10 stores in Alabama, including locations in Mobile and Monroeville, and 35 in Florida.

The closures will leave Southeatern Grocers with 582 stores in seven states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina and SC.

The Harveys at 712 Bypass 25 NE is one of 94 stores its parent company, Southeastern Grocers, will close, according to a Thursday news release.

The restructuring is expected to reduce the company's debt by more than $500 million. "We are excited to emerge with the optimal store footprint and greater financial flexibility to invest in Southeastern Grocers' growth". They've classified the stores that will be closing as "under performing".

"It's going to be devastating for them to have to change their whole life around in 90 days, it's going to be devastating", said Rahmings.
