Mueller subpoenas Trump Organization

Mueller subpoenas Trump Organization

U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has subpoenaed the Trump Organization for documents, including some related to Russian Federation, the New York Times reported on Thursday, citing two people briefed on the matter.

The order appears to be the first time Mueller has demanded information from President Donald Trump's businesses since he began the investigation. The report cites two sources briefed on the subpoena.

An attorney for the Trump Organization said in a statement to the Associated Press that the company has been cooperating with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's investigation since July 2017.

News of the subpoenas, which have been served in recent weeks, comes as Mueller has started to look at the role foreign money played in backing Trump's run for president. His team has asked witnesses about Emirati money flowing into the US and about a possible deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

Oshae Brissett had 23 points and 12 rebounds for the Orange, who only played until the second round in the ACC tournament. But in a sporting spectacle littered with the unexpected, Syracuse's "same old" was the magic it needed.

Trump previously said should Mueller probe his personal finances, that would be a "red line".

Also on Thursday, Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee - who have had access to internal Trump Organization documents and interviewed key witnesses - announced the alleged 2016 bank deal.

The subpoena is the latest indication that the investigation, which Trump's lawyers once regularly assured him would be completed by now, will continue for at least several more months.

CNN reported in January that the company had voluntarily provided documents on a range of events, conversations and meetings from Trump's real estate business to Mueller and congressional investigators, according to three people familiar with the matter.

It said it needed answers about whether the Russian government, through "business figures close to the Kremlin", was seeking to launder funds through the Trump Organization, and whether Trump's financial exposure - through his debt with Deutsche Bank - gave a point of leverage to Russia.

Russian Federation itself has denied United States intelligence agencies' conclusion that it meddled in the election and Trump has said there was no collusion with Moscow.

Trump also told reporters he had not been contacted by investigators at that time.

Congressional committees also have been investigating Russian Federation and the 2016 election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

A month later, the White House counsel, Donald McGahn, threatened to quit after Trump asked him to have Mueller fired because the president believed he had conflict-of-interest issues that precluded him from running the special-counsel investigation.
