Free agent ace Arrieta, Phillies reach 3-yr deal

Free agent ace Arrieta, Phillies reach 3-yr deal

The deal is pending a physical, according to Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia. Darvish signed a six-year, $126 million deal, but before that deal was closed Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein reportedly put in a final call to Arrieta, who had been a mainstay of the team's rotation in recent seasons.

The Phillies appear primed to add a legitimate ace to the top of their rotation, inking former Cy Young victor Jake Arrieta to a three-year deal worth $75 million, according to sources.

Yu Darvish served as one of the first chips to fall, signing a hefty free-agent deal with the Chicago Cubs in mid-February.

China-US trade war would produce no winners, only catastrophe, Beijing says
Citing Chinese researchers, Zhong said the US has been overstating its trade deficit with China by about 20 percent every year. The tariffs are considered to be targeted at China due to the country's production of global surpluses of steel.

Then again, for the sake of the argument that Arrieta turned 32 earlier in March, let's hope if a deal is reached in the next couple of days, the Phillies will be leaning towards a short-term deal instead of a long one.

The Philadelphia Phillies made their boldest move yet.

He was 14-10 with a 3.53 ERA a year ago.

Indian Wells: Williams sisters to face each other
Serena was already pregnant with daughter Alexis Olympia, who was born on 1 September, when she beat Venus 6-4 6-4 in Melbourne. The breaks continued to go back and forth, with the second set seeing four in a row by the time the scoreline reached 3-3.

New manager Gabe Kapler's motto throughout spring training has been: "Be Bold". The right-hander has the option to opt-out after the 2019 season, but the contract also allows the Phillies to void that potential opt-out clause in the form of a two-year extension for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Now they've added a proven No. 1 starter to a slew of young arms in the rotation.

The 2018 regular season is just about three weeks away, and Arrieta would need to sign soon if he intends to be ready to pitch on opening week.

March Madness: Two players will determine the result of UCLA-Arizona
Arizona outrebounded the Bruins - with stalwart Thomas Welsh (17 points and 17 rebounds) - by a margin of 10-1 in overtime. To win one against Arizona will be a tall task. "And he played like that today", Stanford coach Jerod Haase said.
