Cricket SA apologises to Warner and Australia over Sonny Bill masks

Cricket SA apologises to Warner and Australia over Sonny Bill masks

The two officials posing with fans in the masks have been identified as Cricket South Africa's head of commercial and marketing Clive Eksteen and head of communications Altaaf Kazi.

Warner's wife was involved in a tryst with New Zealand rugby player Sonny Bill Williams over 10 years ago.

Warner's wife, Candice Warner, had a sexual encounter with Williams in a hotel toilet in Australia in 2007 before her relationship with the cricketer began.

Warner copped three demerit points and was fined 75% of his match fee for an altercation with Quinton de Kock in the first Test, while Nathan Lyon was fined 15% of his match fee for dropping the ball on AB de Villiers after running him out.

Alerted on social media that the masks were going to be brought to the game on Friday, the Australians wanted security measures taken. Kazi and Eksteen were then contacted by the fans and met them at the gates, where it was decided that they would be allowed in.

CSA president Chris Nenzani said the organisation sent "sincere apologies to the board of Cricket Australia, its officials, team management, plays and their families".

CA is furious with the conduct of Eksteen and Kazi, with chairman David Peever and chief executive James Sutherland expressing their disgust to their South African counterparts.

Both South African officials must be sacked for this, it is bewildering that they would both stoop so low as this.
