Former First Round Pick Traded To Patriots

Former First Round Pick Traded To Patriots

The Browns acquired Jarvis Landry from the Dolphins, Tyrod Taylor from the Bills, and sent DeShone Kizer to the Packers in exchange for Demarious Randall.

In recent days, the Cleveland Browns have significantly changed their roster, and the New England Patriots were one of the teams to trade with them.

As the Browns move to rapidly remake their offense, the Shelton trade could also represent an effort to optimize their improving defense, which was a relative bright spot in their winless 2017 season, even if it was by no means elite.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged dialogue and warned that "no one can win in such a race to the bottom". Tariffs would "seriously impact the normal order of worldwide trade", the Commerce Ministry said.

Shelton, the 12th overall pick back in 2015, has played in 46 games (missing 2 contests in '17) and made 44 starts.

A first-round pick of the Browns in the 2015 NFL Draft out of the University of Washington, Shelton burst onto the scene after being introduced as the selection when he wrapped up NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in a bear hug before posing for photos on the stage in Chicago. The deal is pending Shelton passing a physical.

Pro Football Focus graded him as the league's No. 35 interior defender in 2017.

Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed although sources pegged the price in the $30 million to $35 million range. According to Bloomberg , who first reported on the news, Major League Baseball owners unanimously approved the move.

Doug Kyed of said that Shelton is a younger and better version of the 33-year-old defensive tackle Alan Branch, who was recently released by the Patriots [VIDEO].

But with two Patriots defensive tackles positioned to leave in free agency, Shelton could fill a void in New England. In 2018, Shelton will be making just over $2 million. Most of the time when the Patriots make a deal like this, it turns out to be good for the team.

Shelton joins Malcom Brown, Lawrence Guy, Adam Butler and Vincent Valentine on the Patriots' defensive tackle depth chart. Wilson said Mathieu would be a ideal fit in New England, as he is also capable of playing cornerback and inside linebacker in sub-packages.
