Google Lens now rolling out to Google Photo users

Google is rolling out its Lens beyond its Pixel devices to all Android and iPhone users with Google Photos.

That said, the security patch being rolled out to Pixel 2 smartphones also comes with some functional updates that includes improvements to screen wake performance with fingerprint unlock, audio performance when recording video, and, improved crash reporting. Most device makers take several months to ready updates to a new version of Android. In parallel, they have already managed to extract the native application launcher from the new version of Android. The Lens feature originally released on Google Pixel 2 phones in October a year ago. Lens will be all too happy to oblige though it's just that the feature isn't fool proof at all times.

Google is once again limiting the developer beta program to its own devices. Subsequently, the Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL became the first smartphones to feature Google Lens. Furthermore, to test out the Google Android P developer preview you will need the official Android Emulator software or a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, or Pixel 2 XL device at this stage. With the recent update, however, all Android phones will have this feature.

Google Lens is able to identify paintings and artwork. Yes, the app has been made available within the Google Photos update on the Play Store.

The roll-out for that, however, will only happen in batches which suggests that it could take a while.

Once you use the Google Lens, it will recognise the photo of a landmark or any restaurant or shop and will give you full details including the full address, contact information, email address and more which are available on the Internet regarding that particular places. Keep it locked for much more from Google coming very soon. You can get factory images and install it manually as well. Let's not forget though that Google has done a good job of moving major features of its OS into its apps and services, and due to Android's open nature, the community often helps fill the gaps.
