McNair came under fire last October when he said the league and owners "can't have the inmates running the prison", referencing the ongoing anthem protests, per ESPN's Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr. Two agents responsible for connecting prospective players with National Football League management say the Texans "aren't interested" in players who "took a knee". It led to widespread criticism, protests from Texans players and caused at least one player's wife to admonish McNair on Twitter. After the report surfaced regarding his words, Texans star DeAndre Hopkins skipped practice and other players contemplated a walk out.
