White House Planning to Replace McMaster Next Month

Amid a stream of staff leaving Donald Trump's White House, NBC reported that the three-star general tasked with running White House security policy will, within months, be headed for the exit as well.

Biegun, vice president of global governmental affairs for the Ford Motor Company, served on the National Security Council staff from 2001 to 2003 and worked as a senior staffer for former national security adviser Condoleeza Rice in the George W. Bush administration. He now serves as the vice president of global governmental affairs for Ford and served on the NSC from 2001 to 2003 and worked under Condoleezza Rice.

Former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice introduced Biegun to Mattis who thought he would be a good fit after meeting at a think tank event. Michael Anton, spokesman for the National Security Council, said he just met with Mr. Trump and McMaster.

Friends close to Biegun said that he would likely need several weeks to divest in assets that would prove to be a conflict of interest.

Biegun did not respond himself to a request for comment.

McMaster joined the White House past year to replace Michael Flynn, who resigned after just 24 days in office amid revelations that he had lied to Vice President Mike Pence about his dealings with Russian officials. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation in December. Staff shake-ups and the president's questions about his decisions or views have drawn the ire of Trump.
