Putin Unveils 'Invincible' Nuke, Shows Animation Striking Florida

Putin said that Russian Federation had tested an array of new nuclear weapons, including a new nuclear-powered missile at the end of 2017 which could reach nearly any point in the world and could not be intercepted by anti-missile systems.

Here's a look at the weapons he announced.

The United States is not only beginning to significantly increase military expenditures, but there is a new emphasis on renewing and strengthening American nuclear forces, as well as enhancing anti-ballistic missile defences in Europe.

Putin showed tests of a new missile complex of a type that he said is not owned by any other country.

Russian officials and global institutions, such as the World Bank, have said that Russia must improve living standards and lift state spending on education and healthcare, both of which now account for less than four percent of GDP.

They include a nuclear-powered cruise missile, a nuclear-powered underwater drone and new hypersonic missile which apparently have no equivalent. "US defense capabilities are and will remain second to none".

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Russian Federation has been developing "destabilising weapon systems" for over a decade in direct violation of obligations to non-proliferation treaties. A U.S. official with knowledge of the latest Russian military information tells CNN that the United States has observed a small number of Russian tests of its nuclear-powered cruise missile and seen them all crash.

A frame grab take from a handout video footage provided by official Kremlin website shows an unmanned submersible with an innovative nuclear engine after being launched from a submarine demonstrated on displays during Russian President Vladimir Putin's address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow, Russia, March 1, 2018.

On Thursday, Putin announced for the first time that Russian Federation has built such a weapon.

Putin noted that the tests of the compact nuclear reactor to power the new drone were completed last fall. "The president can not storm down the hall and say, 'Build me a nuclear-powered cruise missile, '" said Nichols.

He said its operational depth and high speed would make it immune to enemy intercept, adding: 'It's just fantastic!'

Some of the names in the Russian arsenal also appeared to have a streak of cynical humor, like the Sun Heat rocket launcher that reduces broad areas to scorched desert.

"To move forward and dynamically develop, we need to expand liberties in all spheres", he added during the address to Russia's political elite, which was carried on state television.

A video that accompanied his statement featured a MiG-31 fighter jet carrying a bulky missile under its fuselage and then launching it during a test flight. The animation of the system showed it striking both US Navy formations and a coastal city.

Nauert also said that Moscow's development of certain new weapons systems violate treaties that it has signed, noting that the US has suspected some of the Kremlin's new military projects. He announced Thursday that Russian Federation has completed the tests of that vehicle, called Avangard, and put it in serial production.

Another new weapon, called Avangard, is an intercontinental hypersonic missile that would fly at 20 times the speed of sound and strike its targets "like a meteorite, like a fireball", he said.

White told Pentagon reporters that USA missile defense has never been about Russian Federation. "The speed will be hypersonic".

Putin said Russian Federation would spend more than 11 trillion roubles ($193.77 billion) on roads in the next six years.
