UNICEF Official Resigns After Accusations of Inappropriate Behavior

Moments after throwing in the towel, Forsyth said he made the decision because he doesn't want the allegations of sexual misconduct made against him to "damage" the agency's work.

He said he is stepping down "because of the danger of damaging both UNICEF and Save the Children" and not because of his past mistakes.

In his resignation statement, Mr. Forsyth said he had worked for 30 years to fight injustice and poverty in places like South Africa, Rwanda and Syria.

The Unicef executive was twice subject to investigation at Save the Children after concerns were raised about his conduct in 2011 and again in 2015 involving three women.

Tory backbencher Nigel Evans said the staggering revelations about Mr Forsyth's behaviour at Save the Children raised serious questions about his "suitability" as Deputy Exec Director at Unicef. I apologised unreservedly at the time and face-to-face.

UNICEF told CNN that it had previously not known about "past complaints" against Forsyth, but welcomed his decision "to come forward and acknowledge past mistakes".

"Two organisations I truly love and cherish".

Justin Forsyth has resigned as deputy chief executive at the charity Unicef after admitting to making inappropriate comments to female members of staff in his previous job. "I can't let this happen".

The two-month suspension comes after charity chiefs revealed Oxfam has received 26 allegations of misconduct since the Haiti sex scandal erupted two weeks ago.

Sexual misconduct at aid agencies has gained attention this month after a report that workers for Oxfam International who were in Haiti following the natural disaster had hired prostitutes in 2011.

Meanwhile, official figures revealed purchase of straws by the British parliament had doubled in the last three years. He added, while a balanced approach would be needed: "If it is bad, then banning it is a good thing".
